The actions of human beings are leading to the 6th mass extinction. This dissertation is concerned with the latter, and with the disconnection of human beings from nature. The aim is, to understand how Interaction Design can act, through a design activity that integrates sustainable concerns, promoting difference among users and thus helping to maintain biodiversity. It explores the use of methodologies that are based on biocentrist and post-humanist principles, as well as how technology can serve more sustainable solutions. Through literature review, indirect observation and case studies, the aim is, in the first instance, to deepen the knowledge on the subject. Based on the acquired knowledge, a questionnaire was carried out to 52 participants. The questionnaire focused on sustainable professional practices and, simultaneously, raised improvements to human-centered design. This allowed to generate insights and references for the development of new heuristics for the Interaction Design process to integrate sustainable practices. Thus, proposing a new concept, “bio-centered” design, should motivate awareness of the urgency of reversing the loss of biodiversity and restoring the planet’s balance, as well as the understanding that design has a fundamental role in this cause. The artefacts must be designed based on sustainable practices.
