Enhancement é o uso de tecnologia com o objetivo de melhorar as características humanas para lá das que um individuo normal possui, e pode tomar diferentes formas – enhancement físico, cognitivo, genético e moral. Este trabalho final de mestrado apresenta uma visão sobre a ética do enhancement através de uma revisão seletiva da literatura publicada sobre este tema ao longo dos últimos dez anos. Primeiro, tenta fornecer uma definição de enhancement e explorar as limitações e permeabilidade dessa definição. Procede depois para uma análise de problemas bioéticos comuns do enhancement, à luz de princípios clássicos como beneficência, não-maleficência ou dignidade. Os subtipos de enhancement são definidos individualmente e as questões bioéticas específicas colocadas por cada um deles abordadas. Termina com um destaque das principais ideias discutidas ao longo do artigo.

This thesis offers a view on the ethics of enhancement through a selective review of the literature published on this thematic in the last ten years. First, it attempts to provide a definition of enhancement and explore the limitations and permeability of this definition. Then, it proceeds to analyze common enhancement bioethical problems in the light of classic principles such as beneficence, non-maleficence or dignity.
