The aim of this exploratory and quantitative investigation, is to study the relationship between Family Rituals, Family Cohesion and Life Satisfaction, and to verify the influence of the socio-demographic variables (gender, age, socioeconomic level, number of children and duration of relationship) on them, regarding couples with children. The sample for this study consists of 190 couples (N=380) with children: 142 couples from Coimbra and 48 couples from Lisbon, with various educational and socio-economic levels. The Socio-demographic Questionnaire; Family Ritual Questionnaire – FRQ (Fiese & Kline, 1993; Portuguese version Crespo (2007) and Lind (2012)); Family Environment Scale (Moos & Moos, 1986; Portuguese version Matos e Fontaine, 1992); Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen & Griffin, 1985; Portuguese version Neto, 1993), were used. The software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 20.0 for Windows was used for the quantitative analysis. The results showed that: 1) the socio-economic level influences the family rituals (especially for the mothers) and the family cohesion for both sexes; 2) age influences family rituals, for both sexes, and family cohesion, in this case only for the fathers; 3) the duration of the relationship influences the family rituals in both sexes, and also the family cohesion, in this case only for the fathers; 4) gender and the number of children, have no influence over the dependent variables; and 5) life satisfaction, does not correlate with family rituals and family cohesion. This study hopes to be a reference for future studies regarding this specific topic.
