Abstract(s)
A presente proposta espelha, na sua génese, uma inquietação referente à (inexistente) qualidade de vida das classes sociais mais baixas, vítimas da sociedade capitalista neo-liberal. Este sistema político e económico explora simultaneamente o ser humano e o ambiente natural, extraindo o que lhe convém para a obtenção do maior lucro.
No bairro do 2ºTorrão, na Trafaria, Portugal, o elevado grau de habitabilidade precária e o sentimento de segregação sócio-espacial são constantes. Invoca-se o direito a habitar dignamente e comunitariamente os espaços doméstico e público.
Nesse sentido, trabalhámos o re-alojamento da população do 2ºTorrão para a proximidade do actual bairro, consolidando a zona a oeste do núcleo histórico da Trafaria. Novas casas e um equipamento escolar são propostos – ambos instrumentos de integração social – re-afirmando a ideia de empoderamento colectivo. Conceitos de flexibilidade e habitação evolutiva são introduzidos, permitindo estratégias mais adequadas às necessidades e possibilidades da população. A importância das áreas naturais é enfatizada, com a introdução de novos jardins, pomares e hortas comunitárias.
Re-pensando o impacto da arquitectura e construção no meio ambiente natural, apostámos numa estrutura leve de madeira (light wood framing) portuguesa. A madeira é proveniente de cultivo sustentável, consequentemente reduzindo a pegada ecológica.
Em suma, a proposta versa sobre duas premissas: a social e a ecológica; entendendo que pertencemos todos à mesma casa, à mesma comunidade: o nosso planeta.
ABSTRACT : The genesis of the current proposal concerns the poor quality of life in low-income communities, victims of the neo-liberalist, capitalist society. This political and economic system exploits both the people and the natural environment, extracting resources; with the sole aim of maximizing profit. In the neighborhood of 2ºTorrão, in Trafaria, Portugal, the poor housing conditions and the feeling of social-spatial segregation are common. We invoke the right for the residents to inhabit the domestic and public spaces communally and with dignity. The project centers on the resettlement of the residents of 2ºTorrão, proximal to their current location by consolidating the west zone of Trafaria’s historical center. New houses and a school are proposed – both instruments of social integration – reaffirming the idea of collective empowerment. Concepts of flexibility and incremental housing are introduced, providing suitable strategies and possibilities to the evolving local population. The importance of natural areas is emphasized, with the introduction of new gardens – both contemplative and edible. Rethinking the physical impact of architecture and construction on the natural environment, we selected a lightweight portuguese wood framing for the structures. The wood is sustainably harvested, thus minimizing the ecological footprint. In conclusion, our proposal addresses two aspects of life: the social and the ecological; understanding that ultimately, we all belong to the same house, the same community: our planet.
