Apresentam-se o conjunto de fragmentos de cachimbos em cerâmica, provenientes da escavação da antiga ermida setecentista da ordem terceira de São Francisco. O estudo destes singulares artefactos permitem abordar uma das alterações impactantes nos hábitos quotidianos das comunidades europeias produzidos pelo processo de descobrimento e expansão dos séculos XV e XVI, o consumo de tabaco.
We present in this paper a set of ceramic pipe fragments from the excavation of the former seventeenth century hermitage of the Third Order of San Francisco. Studying these unique artefacts allows us to address one of the impactful changes in the daily habits of European communities produced by the process of discovery and expansion of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the consumption of tobacco.
