Resumo(s)
Fenix is an Integrated Academic Management System shared by several schools of the University of
Lisbon, which aims to speed up the multiple tasks of the educational process. There is a constant need
to incorporate new features into Fenix, to meet the emerging needs of schools.
The aim of this work is to develop a module that contributes to the management of quality assurance
in schools. This module should include the quality assurance processes of the Curriculum Units, Study
Cycles and the overall functioning of the Academic Year, serving as a complement to the assessment and
accreditation processes external to schools. The system must guarantee the existence and dissemination
of updated information that promotes the assessment of teaching, creating mechanisms that lead to the
improvement of existing conditions and to a reduction in the effort of all those involved in the assessment
process.
In particular, this work allows the calculation and analysis of a set of statistical indicators of academic
performance, the results of which must be analyzed by the various intervening parties in the quality
assurance processes of the Curricular Units and Study Cycles.
Since this module will be used by several schools that have different specificities, one of the great
challenges inherent in the development of this project is to build a solution that is modular, in order to
allow schools to see their more specific needs reflected in the results produced. With this objective in
mind, Fenix’s process modeling tool was used, which gives schools some flexibility to adapt the available
solution, taking into account their needs. In addition to using Fenix’s workflow process modeling tool
with the aim of facilitating the adaptation of the system to the context of each school, some configuration
mechanisms were developed to accommodate the specificities of each school in the developed solution.
