Responding to the specific conditions of the Sado’s estuary and Serra da Arrábida, where the respect for the region’s ecological and historical richness is a reality, I propose a new building in the 8th Battery of Albarquel, where the lines of the design use the idea of camouflage as architecture through the use of local materials and forms that merge with the landscape, with an emphasis on sustainability and respect of nature. I propose a Marine Research Center with knowledge as its motto, adressing the need of integrating architecture with the territory and the natural environment. Smoothly inserting the building into the terrain and respecting the topography, it’s light estructure, with green roofs and glazed facades, reinforces the relationship with nture, allowing for transparency and fluidity between the interior and exterior. As a fundamental element in enhancing the landscape and quality of life, architecture can create a link between the past and the future, this way, this project aims to build spaces for research, coexistence, education and environmental preservation, contributing to the sustainable development of the region.
