Abstract(s)
Nowadays, it’s quite relevant studying sleep hygiene behaviors given the changes that occur within them and due to its significance on well-being and the quality of life of the individuals. The adoption of healthy behaviors of sleep hygiene, such as limiting the use of technologies and avoiding the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine before sleep, have a positive impact on its quality. It is known that university students are a part the community particularly susceptible to sleep problems given the biological, environmental, and psychosocial changes that occur, generally, in this phase of development of their lives, making it more likely for them to have irregular patterns of sleep. With the purpose of investigating the predictors of behavior on building relaxing sleep routines before bed having the model HAPA as a basis, 265 university students answered a self-report questionary in 2 distinct moments with a month interval in between. Motivational variables were analyzed on T1 and self-regulation and behavior variables on T2. In the motivational phase, the self-efficiency of the action predicted the intention, while in the volitional phase, the action planning, the self-efficiency of recovery and the action control predicted the behavior. As theoretically expected, the intention did not show itself as the predictor of behavior. It is concluded that the HAPA model can predict and explain the behavior of building relaxing sleep routines before bed, through a longitudinal study and with a heterogeneous sample. The variables involved are important targets on the construction of interventions with the aim to promote healthy sleep behaviors.
