Abstract(s)
This dissertation aims to introduce the geometric figure of the Vesica Pisces and the Mandorla that derives from it. The Vesica is built with only two circumferences. This figure allows you to create geometric figures from three to twelve equal sides. The study was carried out for the purpose of revealing Vesica Pisces´ full potential and to unveil its use throughout history. Research was conducted in two fields: theoretical, which focuses on authors who refer to the figure of the Vesica Pisces directly or indirectly; and practical, where with the ruler and compass we expose exhaustively (but certainly not all) the possible constructions starting only with two circumferences or two arches. Namely the Vesica Pisces and the Mandorla. Throughout several examples presented in this dissertation is corroborated the simplicity of Vesica's construction which leads to the compositional complexity of geometrical figures. This simple method of construction of more complex geometrical figures gets us closer to the artist's intuition and useful for its ease of implementation in the teaching compendium
