| dc.description.abstract | This project work deals with the question of the appropriation and consequent commodification of nostalgia, observed in products of visual culture and as a mass culture phenomenon, attempting to reflect on a comprehension of the underlying motivations behind this phenomenon. We start by studying the question of memory itself: What it is and how it manifests itself in art. Next, we establish the bridge that links memory and nostalgia, this being interpreted using the philosophical work developed by Mark Fisher and the concept of hauntology, which underlines the motivations and implications of the phenomenon being studied. The interpretations taken from this are used in the analysis of artistic works that relate to the theme discussed, and that extend to the discussion of several case studies of artists that we propose as dialogue. In order for this text to serve a theoretical and philosophical research purpose, as base for artistic investigation, topics like image appropriation, collage and artists’ books are also explored, being fundamental to the development of our artistic project. Lastly, we present a record of the process of the artistic project developed, looking to relate the proposed artistic investigation with the questions that were outlined during the length of the present text. | pt_PT |
