| dc.description.abstract | The silent book, or wordless picturebook, has become an increasingly popular storytelling medium. This project aims to understand its distinctive narrative potential and expressive versatility through a historical and comparative analysis of contemporary works, and the creation of a wordless picturebook, adapted from an original story entitled “The Dark Tower”. This work is structured in two parts, a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part consists of a theoretical survey of the historical context of visual narrative, followed by an analysis of the picturebook, focusing mainly on the wordless picturebook, named in the last decade as silent book. This work will explore the characteristics that transform this medium into an important communication tool for transmitting stories that allow readers of different ages and backgrounds to connect personally through image. A comparative analysis of the wordless work of contemporary authors will also be carried out, reinforcing the need to study this type of book as an exercise in stimulating the imagination and a more active attitude in the general public. The aim of the practical work is to develop a wordless picturebook, which communicates effectively without written text. This process involves adapting an original written story into a visual narrative. The entire creative process will be documented, from the initial concept to the final illustrations, utilizing the examples studied in the theoretical part of the work. | pt_PT |
