O presente trabalho tem como foco principal a requalificação urbana da Cidade da Beira, cidade esta com um grande valor histórico, porém parcialmente destruída após uma catástrofe natural. Procurou-se desenvolver uma proposta urbana, de maneira a resolver a fragmentação entre bairros, promovendo assim espaços urbanos e oferecer melhores condições de infra-estruturas às áreas mais afetadas pelo ciclone Idai, fornecendo assim as necessidades básicas para uma reestruturação da Cidade da Beira.
A cidade apresenta um traçado urbano composto por duas morfologias antagónicas, a cidade colonial, com um traçado urbano organizado e estruturado, e os bairros de caniço, com um traçado desorganizado, sem acesso a infra-estruturas básicas e com condições bastante precárias, sendo que foram estes os mais atingidos pelo ciclone.
Tendo em conta este acontecimento que destruiu 90% da cidade, esta encontra-se atualmente em grande dificuldades, tanto a nível económico como social.
Nunca esquecendo a cultura construtiva local, esta proposta deverá apresentar soluções novas e sustentáveis para os problemas existentes. A proposta urbana tem um papel fundamental, pois não é só usada como elo de ligação numa cidade fragmentada, mas também como uma ferramenta para o desenvolvimento de relações numa “nova” cidade.
Um dos grupos sociais mais afetados por esta catástrofe foram as crianças, sendo que muitas ficaram sem famílias, sem casas, e sem um apoio escolar. A proposta desenvolvida teve em consideração a necessidade de criar um elemento que proporcione, a esta faixa etária, um espaço seguro, de apoio e de aprendizagem.
O centro comunitário, em concordância com a proposta urbana e com a habitação, é apresentado como um elo de conexão entre a população e a cidade, de maneira a criar um espaço qualificado, organizado e seguro.
The present work has as main focus the urban requalification of the City of Beira, a city with a great historical value, but partially destroyed after a natural catastrophe. An attempt was made to develop a new urban proposal, in order to resolve the fragmentation between neighborhoods, thus promoting urban spaces and offering better conditions of infrastructure to the areas most affected by the cyclone, thus providing the basic needs for a restructuring of the City of Beira. The city has an urban layout composed of two antagonistic morphologies, the colonial city, with an organized and structured urban layout, and the caniço neighborhoods, with a disorganized layout, without access to basic infrastructures and with very precarious conditions. hardest hit by the cyclone. Never forgetting the local constructive culture, this proposal should present new and sustainable solutions to existing problems.
