e burnout.
In this study the relationship between Organizational Support Perception (POS) and burnout in the Voluntary Firefighters was investigated. Besides this association, we considered appropriate to deepen the knowledge and contributions about the moderating role of POS in the relationship between age and burnout. Having this in mind, the main objective of the present study extends to the analysis of the moderating role of the POS in 1502 Bombeiros Voluntários da Escola Nacional de Bombeiros (ENB). The results showed that the POS presents a significant negative correlation with exhaustion and cynicism. However, our first hypothesis was not verified, because the relationship between the age-exhaustion and age cynicism is negative. That is, they present a significantly negative effect with age. Regarding our moderating variable, it did not present the expected effect, since the interaction between POS-age to explain exhaustion and cynicism was not significant. These results contribute to the literature oriented to the relationship between POS and burnout in the current context of organizations, providing a better understanding of the role of the POS as promoter of higher levels of well-being at work, translating into a sharp decrease in burnout rates in the Voluntary Fire Department. The practical implications of our study are also mentioned, as well as its limitations and suggestions for future research in this context.
