System Justification Theory asserts that individuals inherently rationalize and legitimize established social structures, even if these structures are inherently inequitable. This psychological inclination is especially evident in Brazil, where socio-political preferences often clash with the apparent socio-economic needs of its populace. To delve deeper into this phenomenon, our study rigorously assessed the 6-item System Justification Scale (6-SJS) tailored for the Brazilian milieu, examining its structural invariance across genders. Our analysis, based on responses from 939 male and female Brazilians, validated the unifactorial nature of the 6-SJS and ascertained its configural, metric, scalar, and residual invariance across gender lines. This underscores the scale’s consistency and relevance for both genders, ensuring unbiased assessment. Ultimately, this research strengthens the psychometric foundation of system justification assessment and posits the 6-SJS as an efficient tool for understanding the motivations underpinning societal rationalizations in Brazil.
