Abstract(s)
The aim of the present dissertation is the analysis of the specificities of the current emigration flows from Cape Verde, through the observation of its figures, its causes and effects, the nowadays migrants profile and their insertion in the host countries. ln this sense, a great emphasis to the community of Cape Verde in Portugal is given. Thus, the main purpose of this dissertation is to understand the new migration tendencies from Cape Verde, as well as an eventual consolidation of new phenomena. It has been taken in consideration the historical, politicai, cultural, economic, social, demographic and even intemational contexts that, throughout more than five hundred years of history, have much contributed to the impulse time (hora di bai). Emigration is one of the few ways of running away from the many contrarieties that exist in the country and ace imposed by its insular position, climate and lack õf resources. Having as a basis a theoretical framework that goes back from the classical migration theories, like the push-pull model, to the notion of transnationalism, we conclude that the current migrations from Cape Verde display a constant movement through a vast migration network, spread all over the world, giving a start-up to a transnational community.
