O barotraumatismo é um problema comum na aviação, apresentando uma incidência que varia entre os 8 e 17%, sendo os pilotos de aviação um grupo profissional muito afetado por esta problemática.
O Barotrauma do Ouvido Médio é uma patologia causada por uma desigualdade de pressões entre o ouvido médio e a atmosfera, em períodos de grande variação de pressão, dos quais se destaca o período de descida do avião.
A sintomatologia associada a esta doença é diversa, caracterizando-se essencialmente pela otalgia, sensação de plenitude auricular, hipoacusia, zumbidos, podendo, em casos mais graves, levar à rutura do tímpano.
O tratamento passa por uma evicção da exposição a grandes variações de pressão durante a apresentação dos sintomas, e terapêutica conservadora, com resolução espontânea do problema ao fim de alguns dias, na maioria dos casos.
Destaca-se a necessidade da divulgação da importância da utilização de estratégias de prevenção, com recurso à utilização de alguns métodos, que permitam uma redução da incidência e morbilidade associadas a esta problemática.
Barotraumatism is a very common problem in aviation, showing an incidence that varies between 8 and 17%. Pilots are especially affected by this problem. The Middle Ear Barotraumatism is a pathology caused by a difference between the pressure inside the middle ear and the atmosphere, in a situation where there is a big variation of the ambient pressure, mainly when the plain is landing. The symptoms associated with this disease are pain, fullness of the ear, hearing loss, tinnitus, and, in severe cases, rupture of the tympanic membrane. In most cases, the treatment of this problem implicates avoiding the exposure to big and sudden changes of the atmospheric pressure and conservative therapy, with spontaneous resolution few days after. It is very important to divulge the necessity of using several techniques in order to prevent this problem, reduce its incidence and morbility.
