Resumo(s)
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo explicar a emergência do culto mariano no cristianismo dos primeiros séculos.
Primeiramente, e após uma análise da literatura hebraico-cristã, situou-se o culto mariano no contexto da definição da ortodoxia cristã.
Em seguida, procedeu-se a uma caracterização da religião no seio do Império Romano, numa tentativa de compreender o contexto no qual o cristianismo se veio a desenvolver e a adquirir expressão. Essa caracterização, num primeiro momento, incidiu sobre a religião tradicional romana e em seguida focou-se nos cultos estrangeiros que se praticavam no seio do Império, com especial ênfase sobre o culto de Ísis, uma vez que adquiriu bastante expressão na época em estudo e também porque diversos autores têm estabelecido alguns paralelismos entre esse culto e o de Maria, o que se revelou pertinente no âmbito deste ensaio.
Seguidamente, abordou-se o desenvolvimento do cristianismo no Império Romano, desde a sua chegada a Roma, passando pela fase das perseguições e culminando na sua adoção enquanto religião oficial.
Finalmente, analisaram-se as possíveis influências culturais do mundo antigo na formulação da imagem de Maria e no seu culto subsequente.
Por fim, tendo em conta todos os aspetos referidos anteriormente, procedeu-se à elaboração de uma conclusão que pudesse dar resposta à questão colocada inicialmente.
This project was executed in order to explain the advent of the marian cult in the early centuries of Christianity. First of all, and after examination of the christian-hebrew literature, we considered the marian cult in the definition of the christian orthodoxy. Secondly, we presented the religion of the Roman Empire, in order to understand the context where the christianity has developed and spread. Thus, we focused in the tradicional roman religion and therefore we approached the foreign cults, particularly the isiac cult, since several schoolars draw parallels between that cult and the marian cult. Besides, we presented the development of the christianity in the Roman Empire till its recognition as the oficial state religion. Subsequently, we have analised the possible cultural influences of the ancient world in the Mary’s depiction and in her subsequent cult. Finally, we presented our main conclusions about the subject in question.
