Resumo(s)
This study investigates the use of the sketchbook as a central tool for developing the creative process and promoting emotional well-being. The research proposes an innovative approach based on a reflective and creative methodology that integrates concepts from art therapy and alchemy into editorial design. The project was structured in two main phases: the Laboratory Phase, which explored the creation of a briefing and experimental activities within the sketchbook, and the Prototype Phase, which resulted in the development of The Path of Creative Alchemy, a personally authored editorial object, born from research efforts in both writing and design layout. This book combines visual and textual proposals to guide users through the creative process, demonstrating the practical application of the concepts investigated. Additionally, a qualitative study was conducted with four participants of varying levels of familiarity with creative and reflective practices. The research revealed that the sketchbook, when used in a structured manner, not only aids the creative insights but also generates positive emotional transformations by strengthening self-confidence and artistic expression. The literature review was grounded in Csikszentmihalyi (2014) and Amabile (2010) theories on creativity, as well as Swan-Foster (2018) and Thomas (2020) approaches to art therapy, offering a new perspective on how the sketchbook can be employed for personal and emotional development. The results indicate that art journaling and the reflective techniques proposed in the sketchbook enhance the creative process and facilitate introspection, confirming that this methodology can be adapted to different creative profiles. The main limitations of the research include the small sample size and initial difficulties with reflective writing practices. Nevertheless, the study makes a significant contribution to the fields of editorial design and creative psychology by proposing a model that unites creativity, art therapy, and alchemy as a symbolic process of transformation. The research concludes that the sketchbook is an effective tool for navigating creativity, promoting both technical development and users’ mental well-being
