Objetives: To analyze retrospectively the experience of 2 years of the patients who underwent retropubic and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy at the Department of Urology of the Hospital de Santa Maria. It is also proposed a new database model, for future prospective studies. Material and methods: This retrospective study included 151 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy, between November 2012 and October 2014. The preoperative variables were recorded, as well as the rate of complications, the information of the pathology reports, from the transrectal biopsies and the operative specimen analysis, and the functional and oncological outcomes. Results: The mean age of the patients was 65.1 years, with a mean preoperative PSA of 8,68ng/ml and a median hospital stay of 6 days. The average follow-up was 12,5months. The rate of early and late postoperative complications was 10.3% and 5.8%. The overall rate of positive margins was 46.6%. There was biochemical recurrence in 13.8% of the patients. The rate of continence and potency at 12 months was 79.7% and 10%, respectively. Conclusions: Although most of the results are consistent with the data presented in the literature, the importance of uniform storage of clinical information must be emphasized for the development of prospective studies, with greater scientific validity.
