| dc.description.abstract | Os meniscos são essenciais para o normal funcionamento e manutenção a longo-prazo da articulação do joelho, prevenindo deterioração da cartilagem articular e evitar o surgimento e desenvolvimento de osteoartrose. Os conhecimentos evidenciados por inúmeras investigações científicas relativamente à anatomia, histologia e biomecânica meniscais e à fisiopatologia, diagnóstico e tratamento das suas patologias permitem estabelecer os papéis que o menisco desempenha na articulação do joelho e reconhecer as lesões meniscais como uma causa de comorbilidades músculo-esqueléticas significativas. O objetivo desta Tese de Mestrado é providenciar conhecimento atual relativamente às ciências básicas do menisco e à fisiopatologia, diagnóstico e tratamento das lesões meniscais com recurso a uma revisão da literatura, aplicando-se os conhecimentos adquiridos numa investigação clínica realizada no Serviço de Ortopedia do Hospital Santa Maria. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The menisci are vital for the normal function and long-term health of the knee joint, they act to prevent the deterioration of articular cartilage, and the onset and development of osteoarthritis. The current knowledge shown by several scientific investigations concerning the anatomy, histology, biomechanics of meniscus and the physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment options of meniscal injury have established the importante role menisci carry for the knee as well as meniscal injuries are recognized as a cause of significant musculoskeletal morbility. The aim of this Master’s Thesis is to provide current knowledge concerning meniscus basic sciences and physiopatholgy, diagnosis and surgical approaches to treat meniscal injuries by doing a systematic review and moreover apllying it to a clinical investigation preformed at the Orthopaedics Unit of Hospital Santa Maria. | pt_PT |
