dc.description.abstract	O relatório aqui apresentado é uma reflexão sobre as teorias e as técnicas de tradução que explicam as escolhas de tradução das duas obras de Lewis Carroll traduzidas no âmbito do estágio — A Tangled Tale (Um Conto Emaranhado) e Pillow Problems (Problemas de Almofada). Cada obra apresentou diferentes desafios, que exigiram diferentes capacidades técnicas. Não obstante, o objetivo, para ambas, foi proporcionar experiências de leitura aos leitores portugueses semelhantes às dos leitores ingleses. Dados os diferentes tipos de obras traduzidas, foi necessário identificar as principais diferenças entre textos literários e textos de especialidade e fazer uma viagem por diferentes abordagens aos estudos de tradução, focando-se nos conceitos de equivalência, função e relevância. A tradução de Um Conto Emaranhado permitiu explorar o processo criativo da tradução devido à existência de vários trocadilhos, enquanto Problemas de Almofada permitiu um maior conhecimento de léxico especializado. As duas obras são prova de que, sem um conhecimento profundo da língua e cultura do texto de partida, não é possível chegar a uma tradução bem-sucedida, pois só a partir deste conhecimento é possível identificar a informação que está subentendida no texto e utilizar corretamente o léxico especializado. Mais ainda, é também fundamental perceber a intencionalidade do autor bem como o contexto do público-alvo. Há ainda que ter em conta que o contexto, isto é, o mapa mental do tradutor — tal como percebido através da teoria da relevância —, tem um papel central no processo tradutório, uma vez que não é possível dissociar a carga cultural e experiência de vida do tradutor das suas escolhas de tradução.	pt_PT
dc.description.abstract	The following report is a reflection on the theories and translation techniques that explain the translation choices of the two works by Lewis Carroll translated during the internship — A Tangled Tale (Um Conto Emaranhado) and Pillow Problems (Problemas de Almofada). Each text presented different challenges, which required different technical skills. Nevertheless, the goal, for both, was to provide reading experiences to Portuguese readers similar to those of English readers. Given the different types of translated books, it was necessary to identify the main differences between literary texts and specialized texts as well as to go through different approaches to translation studies, analyzing the linguistic, functionalist and cognitive approaches. The translation of Um Conto Emaranhado was an opportunity to explore the creative process of translation due to the existence of several puns, while Problemas de Almofada allowed a greater knowledge of specialized lexicon. The two texts are proof that, without a deep knowledge of the language and culture of the source text, it is not possible to arrive at a successful translation, as it is only from this knowledge that it is possible to identify the information that is implied in the text and correctly use the specialized lexicon. Furthermore, it is also essential to understand the author’s intentionality as well as the context of the target audience. It must also be taken into account that the context, that is, the mental map of the translator — as perceived through the theory of relevance —plays a central role in the translation process, since it is not possible to dissociate their cultural baggage and life experience from their translation choices.	pt_PT
