Resumo(s)

The current work shall consider the application of the play activity in the field of pre-school education and basic education, introducing legislation, concepts, and playful materials. The advantages of the association of play with activities of a cognitive nature, in pedagogical contexts, are emphasized, predicting the occurrence of play situations and Dramatic play associated with literacy. Several authors believe in the advantages of this type of pedagogical experiences for the balanced development of the child and for his or her school integration. We value, therefore, the teaching that reconciles cognitive capabilities with expressive and playful abilities, offering to all these aspects autonomy and a harmonious coexistence. Even if the adult uses pedagogies of the more traditional and formal type, it is always possible to gradually introduce experiments with new materials. We shall reflect on the contribution of certain pedagogues who contributed to the design of new spaces and play materials, presenting examples of educational games. We shall also offer a brief analysis of the Curricular Guidelines, and we conclude that the recent regulations recognize greater value to playful activity.
