O desenvolvimento regional desequilibrado é um problema comum encontrado pelos
países em desenvolvimento. O Brasil, segunda maior economia das Américas e a maior
da América Latina, também enfrenta esse problema. Como uma das regiões menos
desenvolvidas do país, a região nordeste do Brasil tem apresentado rápido
desenvolvimento nos últimos anos. Com base no Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano
(IDH), esta dissertação estuda a evolução do IDH no Brasil como um todo e na região
Nordeste nos 20 anos de 1990 a 2010, e a articulação entre as políticas de
desenvolvimento regional formuladas pelo país e o rápido desenvolvimento da região
nordeste.
Unbalanced regional development is a common problem encountered by developing countries. Brazil, the second largest economy in the Americas and the largest in Latin America, also faces this problem. As one of the least developed regions in the country, the northeast region of Brazil has shown rapid development in recent years. Based on the Human Development Index (HDI), this dissertation studies the evolution of the HDI in Brazil as a whole and in the Northeast region in the 20 years from 1990 to 2010, and the articulation between the regional development policies formulated by the country and the rapid development of the Northeast region.
