A arquitetura das cidades traduz-se numa acumulação de diferentes estratos, consequentes de uma multiplicidade de fatores que, ao longo do tempo, deixaram cravados no território as marcas da sua heterogeneidade que remetem indiscutivelmente para a sua própria história, memória e identidade. O presente trabalho tem como objecto de reflexão um desses sedimentos, que prevaleceu sobre a arbitrariedade do tempo, ao longo de quase quinhentos anos, o Convento de Santa Marta, atual Hospital de Santa Marta, sito na Colina de Santana, em Lisboa.
No século XV, os mosteiros femininos de clausura passaram a ser concebidos segundo uma autêntica retórica da fortificação. Os espaços que se encontram no limite são os que vão refletir essa demanda, onde arquitetura, género e religiosidade se materializam nos sucessivos planos de mediação e transição intramuros e entre mundos, num diálogo bastante rico entre a História e a Arquitetura.
O projeto proposto neste trabalho procura, assim, salvaguardar a essência do Convento, na perspectiva de dar uma continuidade contemporânea que respeite o sentido do lugar, em que o presente é apenas mais um estrato na cadência do tempo de amanhã.
ABSTRACT: The architecture of the cities reveals an accumulation of different layers due to a multiplicity of factors that leave, through the years, marks of its heterogeneity in the territory, refering undoubtedly to its own history, memory and identity. The present dissertation is about one of those layers that prevailed over the arbitrary of time in the past five hundred years, the convent of Santa Marta, today a hospital, located in the hill of Santana. In the fifteenth century, the feminine closure monasteries started to be conceived upon the logic of fortification. The areas in the limits reflect that logic, where architecture, gender and religiosity materialize in successive mediation and transition levels between walls and between worlds, in a rich dialogue among history and arquitecture. The project proposed in this essay attempts to maintain the essence of the convent, in a perspective of giving it a contemporary continuity that respects the sense of the place, in which the present is just one more level in the pace of future time.
