| dc.description.abstract | A perda auditiva é uma deficiência importante no nosso país e no resto do mundo. O diagnóstico precoce é muito importante, pois o seu atraso pode afetar o desenvolvimento da linguagem, articulação verbal, as habilidades académicas e o desenvolvimento social e emocional. As malformações do ouvido interno correspondem a cerca de 20% dos casos de perda auditiva neurossensorial congénita. As malformações congénitas resultam de erros durante a embriogénese ou de eventos intrauterinos que afetam o crescimento normal do embrião. Quanto mais complexa for a estrutura, maior a probabilidade de sofrer uma malformação. Assim o estudo da origem das estruturas que formam o aparelho auditivo, tem uma importância fundamental para o diagnóstico clínico. Através de um melhor conhecimento da malformação do ouvido, o diagnóstico clínico torna-se mais preciso, nomeadamente em relação ao período em que o desenvolvimento foi interrompido, qual o mecanismo fisiopatológico, que outros órgãos poderão ter sido afetados, qual o prognóstico da situação e quais as implicações para o aconselhamento genético. O implante coclear continua a ser a melhor opção terapêutica, melhorando a capacidade auditiva e a capacidade de fala na maioria dos doentes. Com o desenvolvimento destes implantes torna-se cada vez mais importante o estudo imagiológico para a seleção das indicações cirúrgicas, a escolha do tipo e implante, o planeamento da cirurgia, e a prevenção e identificação de potenciais complicações cirúrgicas. Desta forma, a tomografia computorizada (TC) e a ressonância magnética (RM) desempenham um papel crucial na avaliação pré-cirúrgica das malformações do ouvido interno. Existem várias classificações das malformações do ouvido interno, por este motivo é importante ter uma classificação universal que permita a partilha de conhecimentos na comunidade científica. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Hearing loss is a major deficiency in Portugal and in the rest of the world. Early diagnosis is very important because its delay can affect language development, verbal articulation, academic skills and social and emotional development. Malformations of the inner ear correspond to about 20% of cases of congenital sensorineural hearing loss. Congenital malformations result from errors during embryogenesis or from intrauterine events that affect the normal growth of the embryo. The more complex the structure, the greater the likelihood of malformation. Thus, the study of the origin of the structures that make part of the auditory system, is of major importance for the clinical diagnosis. Through better knowledge of ear malformations, the clinical diagnosis becomes more precise, especially in relation to the period in which the development was interrupted, the pathophysiological mechanism, which other organs may have been affected, the prognosis of the situation and implications for genetic counseling. Cochlear implantation continues to be the best therapeutic option, improving hearing capacity and speech ability in most patients. With the development of these implants it becomes increasingly important the imaging study to select the surgical indications, the type and implant choice, the planning of the surgery, and the prevention and identification of potential surgical complications. Thus, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) play a crucial role in the pre-surgical evaluation of internal ear malformations.
