A aquisição do controlo dos esfíncteres tem apresentado mudanças importantes nas últimas décadas. Os problemas no treino e nas funções de eliminação podem estar relacionados, por isso pais e profissionais de saúde são determinantes para o sucesso deste processo. Hoje os pais pesquisam na Internet sobre informação médica e sobre a parentalidade. Esta scoping review teve como objetivo identificar os vídeos de profissionais publicados online, em Português e Inglês, sobre esta tarefa de desenvolvimento e os conhecimentos e sugestões comportamentais dirigidos a pais de crianças saudáveis em idade pré-escolar. Os 63 vídeos encontrados incluídos têm recomendações de pediatras, outros médicos, psicólogos, homeopatas e enfermeiros. A maioria dos vídeos analisados sugere um método centrado na criança, considerando a sua prontidão e num ambiente agradável e encorajador. O treino prematuro e as práticas parentais coercivas são desaconselhadas, sob risco de consequências físicas e emocionais negativas, com impacto no desenvolvimento psicossocial da criança. Métodos centrados nos pais e de início muito precoce são mencionados nos vídeos, denotando o interesse dos pais ocidentais em diferentes estratégias de treino. Conclui-se que as indicações dos vídeos online refletem a diversidade das características desta aprendizagem individual. Num tempo de globalização os pais são expostos a informações de várias fontes, que se contradizem ou conflituam, potenciando dúvidas e dificuldades nesta tarefa. Os profissionais de saúde devem refletir num método eficiente para as famílias e sociedades.
Toilet training has noticed important changes in the last decades. Problems in training and dysfunctional eliminations may be related, therefore parents and health professionals are crucial to the success of the process. Parents today frequently search the Internet for parental and medical information. This scoping review aimed to identify online videos in Portuguese and in English by professionals about toilet training as well as the information and behavioral suggestions given to parents of healthy preschoolers. The 63 videos included in this review have recommendations of pediatricians, other physicians, psychologists, homeopaths and nurses. Most of the analyzed videos suggests a child-oriented method, according to one’s own readiness, in a pleasant and encouraging environment. Early training and coercive parental practices are dissuaded due to the risk of negative physical and emotional consequences, impacting the child’s psychosocial development. Parent-centered and early toilet training methods are present in some videos, demonstrating the interest of western parents in different training strategies. The instructions present in the analyzed videos reflect the wide diversity of this individual learning’s characteristics. In a time of globalization, parents are exposed to many sources of contradictory and conflicting information, contributing to difficulties and doubts in this endeavor. Health professionals should reflect on an efficient method for families and societies. Keyword
