Resumo(s)
Developed in the scope of the curricular internship for the Master’s degree in Geology, with a specialization in Applied and Environmental Geology, the present report focuses on the analysis and description of geological and geotechnical prospection methodologies applied to current projects. The internship took place at Geocontrole – Geotecnia e Estruturas de Fundação S.A., where several geological and geotechnical prospection campaigns were monitored for civil engineering purposes. The selected methodologies for each investigation considered the soil characteristics, the desired depth of analysis, and the type of structure to be implemented. Accordingly, different types of prospection techniques were employed, with emphasis on in situ tests, such as Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Ménard pressuremeter, among others. Complementary laboratory tests were performed to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soils. This report includes the analysis of three case studies, which enabled the observation of the practical application of the described methodologies, from the planning of the prospection campaigns to the analysis and interpretation of the obtained results. The geological diversity of the studied sites provided a broader understanding of methodological adaptations according to the geotechnical context of each project. The parameters collected through the prospection campaigns are fundamental for the design of foundations and retaining structures. The interpretation of results highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, integrating field investigation with laboratory analysis, to ensure data reliability and the adaptation of geotechnical solutions tailored to each project. It is concluded that, in any civil engineering project, the geological and geotechnical prospection phase is mandatory, directly influencing the technical and economic feasibility of the project, while ensuring the safety and sustainability of the infrastructures to be constructed.
