Normas, estratégias e técnicas na tradução literária direta do polaco para o português europeu (1990-2010)

O estudo das normas, estratégias e técnicas na tradução literária direta do polaco para o português europeu (1990-2010) insere-se no âmbito da investigação dedicada à história externa e interna da tradução literária numa perspetiva descritiva. A abordagem segue o modelo dos Estudos Descritivos de Tradução, concebido por Gideon Toury (1995/2012), tendo carácter empírico, comparativo, descritivo e explicativo.
O estudo pretende refletir sobre a prática tradutória no par de línguas polaco-português europeu, com base num corpus de dez obras literárias escritas originalmente em língua polaca e das respetivas dez traduções, executadas diretamente do polaco para o português europeu, num período compreendido entre 1990-2010, ou seja, durante vinte anos.
Conjugando conhecimentos de Estudos de Tradução, de Teoria da Literatura e de Linguística, a investigação, sustentada no modelo tripartido de Toury (1995/2012), começa por fazer uma breve incursão na história externa da tradução para investigar o contexto que, em Portugal, favoreceu a tradução das referidas dez obras com vista a reconstruir (i) as normas preliminares que ditaram as políticas de tradução, bem como os motivos que levaram os editores a optar pela tradução direta.
No cumprimento do modelo escolhido, a investigação prossegue com a análise comparativa dos textos de partida e de chegada com o objetivo de averiguar (ii) as normas iniciais (estratégias) que dão origem às estratégias macrotextuais de tradução, escolhidas previamente pelos tradutores, a saber: adequação, quando o tradutor preserva normas do texto de partida, ou aceitabilidade, quando o tradutor adere às normas de escrita da cultura de chegada. Neste passo, o estudo investe ainda na aferição de algumas marcas distintivas dos tradutores a nível lexical, sintático e estilístico.
Por último, a investigação debruça-se sobre (iii) as normas operacionais (técnicas) que determinam as decisões tomadas pelos tradutores a nível microtextual, especialmente no que respeita a questões lexicais, sintáticas e estilísticas.
The investigation of norms, strategies and techniques in direct Polish-European Portuguese literary translation (1990-2010) falls within the scope of research dedicated to internal and external history of literary translation in a descriptive framework. The approach follows the model of the Descriptive Translation Studies, designed by Gideon Toury (1995/2012), and thus has an empirical, comparative, descriptive and explanatory character. The purpose of the study is to examine the translation practice in the language pair Polish- -European Portuguese by means of a close comparative analysis of a corpus consisting of ten literary works originally written in Polish and the respective ten direct translations to European Portuguese. The study covers a period of twenty years from 1990 to 2010. As Translation Studies are an interdisciplinary academic field, the study resorts to Translation Theory, Literature Theory and Linguistics in order to explore the Portuguese context that allowed the translation of Polish literature, and to compare source and target texts. The study follows Toury’s tripartite (1995/2012) model, and begins with a brief insight to the external history of translation in order to investigate the Portuguese context, which favoured the translation of ten works of Polish literature. The aim is to reconstruct (i) the preliminary norms of translation regarding the nature of translation policy, and the directness of translation in the Polish-Portuguese case. In compliance with Toury’s model, the research continues with a thorough comparative analysis of source and target texts in order to scrutinize (ii) the initial norm (strategies), which gives birth to strategies previously chosen by translators. The first and basic choice is made between adequacy, the preservation of source text norms, and acceptability, the adherence to norms active in the target culture. At this point, the study still aims at assessing the distinctive marks of individual translators as far as lexical, syntactic and stylistic issues are concerned. Finally, the research focuses on the reconstruction of (iii) operational norms (techniques) which govern the decisions made by translators during the act of translation itself, affecting the matrix of the text, as well as the textual make-up and verbal formulation, especially with regard to lexical, syntactic and stylistic issues.
