A place where Roman architecture intersects with traditional architecture, and appear combined with the natural landscape that the interior of Portugal offers. Vestiges of this pioneering architecture, almost untouched, as a scenario of the daily life of the population of this village. We are in Sertã, in the center of the country, where despite its status as a growing town, a small town in the interior, it still suffers the consequences of the depopulation of the 20th century. The industrial revolution has sustained greater union between the more urban regions with the more rural regions located mostly in the interior of the country, something that has been lost over the decades due to the large concession of industry being located in the periphery and sealinked cities. With the departure of the population to the large cities on the coast of the country, there were buildings that were abandoned, with no direction to follow, degraded. Unprotected spaces, which could have followed another line of life, but which are still closely linked to the collective memory and identity of the place; and we want it to remain that way, based on a program that aims to establish a new centrality for the municipality. The intention of this final master's work is to bring architecture to this often forgotten interior, to use architecture as a linking element against the reality of desertification that our territory has faced in recent decades. As so, the work tries to present solutions to contribute to the general improvement of the populations that reside far from the big cities. This project aims to create leisure and accommodation spaces to promote a better experience in the most deserted areas, thus preventing the tendency of the rural exodus phenomenon to be constantly repeated.
