Um crescente número de estudos tem vindo a mostrar que a utilização de redes
sociais em contexto educativo pode ser bastante promissora, já que se tornaram parte do
quotidiano dos alunos. Contudo, o Instagram em particular ainda tem poucas
investigações associadas, razão que deu origem à presente investigação, cujo principal
objetivo foi tentar trazer o Instagram para a sala de aula, mas mais do que isso, levar a
aula ao Instagram e ao lar de cada aluno.
Deste modo, foi desenvolvido um estudo no âmbito da Iniciação à Prática
Profissional integrada no Mestrado em Ensino de Biologia e Geologia, que procurou
compreender de que forma a utilização da rede social Instagram pode ser benéfica no
processo de ensino e aprendizagem. Os participantes do estudo correspondem a uma
turma de 10º ano de escolaridade da área de Ciências e Tecnologias e são alunos num
estabelecimento de ensino privado situado no concelho de Lisboa, durante a lecionação
das unidades curriculares “A Célula e os seus Constituintes”, ”Membrana Celular” e
“Obtenção de Matéria nos Seres Heterotróficos”.
Os principais objetivos desta investigação foram analisar como o uso do Instagram
pode promover capacidades de divulgação científica, as competências que os alunos
podem desenvolver ao utilizar esta aplicação, quais as dificuldades que surgem e a opinião
geral dos alunos no que diz respeito à utilização pedagógica do Instagram. Ao longo da
intervenção foram realizadas atividades práticas laboratoriais e experimentais, atividades
de pesquisa e discussões em aula, sempre associadas à criação de publicações no
Instagram.
A recolha de dados foi realizada através da observação das aulas, questionários
aos alunos e análise documental e foi possível perceber que, de facto, a utilização do
Instagram no processo de ensino e aprendizagem tem potencial para aumentar o interesse
dos alunos na disciplina, bem como ajudá-los a refletir mais aprofundadamente sobre os
conteúdos estudados e ainda lhes dá oportunidades de desenvolver competências como a
seleção e síntese de informação, a organização e a apresentação da mesma.
A growing number of studies has come to show how the use of social media in an educational context can be quite promising, since they are now a part of students’ daily lives. Still the application of Instagram and its study is sparce, hence the arise of the present investigation. The main goal of this project was to try and bring Instagram to the classroom, but more importantly, take the classroom to Instagram and the home of every student. The study was developed as a part of the Professional Practice Initiation module of the Biology and Geology Teaching master’s degree as way to understand how the use of Instagram could be helpful during the learning and teaching process. The participants consisted of a 10th grade Science and Technology class who study at a private school in Lisbon. This project took place during the teaching of the modules “The Cell and its Components”, “Cellular Membrane” and “Matter Attainment in Heterotrophs”. The goals of this investigation were to analyze how the use of Instagram could promote scientific communication skills as well as comprehend what other skills could be developed, what difficulties emerge from this application and what were the students’ opinions on the utilization of Instagram as a teaching and learning tool. During the project there were laboratorial, experimental and research activities plus class discussions, all of which were associated with the creation of Instagram Posts. Data collection was implemented trough class observation, questionnaires and documental analysis of the Posts created by the students during the project. It was possible to access that the utilization of Instagram as a teaching and learning tool can indeed increase students’ interest on the subject and also help them think deeper about what was taught in class. Besides it also provided the chance to develop certain skills such as selection and summary of information plus the organization and presentation of said information.
