This dissertation has as object of study the Angolan graphic arts, focusing on the work of the National Press of Angola, as the first official printing company of Angola, ex-colonies of Portugal, addressing its official activity and for private clients, between 1961 and 1974, emphasizing the most relevant moments, from its foundation to the end of the colonial period. With the analysis of archive material and testimonies of former graphic arts technicians of the Angolan National Press, it was intended to scrutinize the technical and technological processes of the Angolan National Press (INA), which has a common past with the National Press based in Lisbon. Although Angola was, during the period we set out to study, one of Portuguese colonies, the graphic work carried out at INA was independent. In this respect, the colonies had a certain "freedom" in the printing of their publications, resulting from the need to produce more and more state documentation, of which are examples of the Boletins Oficiais of this Portuguese colony. This study explores the graphic production of INA as Official Typography of Angola, not only responsible to produce state documentation, but also to produce materials for the private sector, evidencing its activity in the different sections of this important institution, equipment used and probing influences of significant artistic movements for the development of materials that were produced. This study aims to contribute to the reflection and appreciation of Angolan graphic arts.
