Resumo(s)
The project work Um abraço que nos derruba (A hug that knocks us out), is divided into three parts. The first one – Olhar (Gaze) - treats the availability and curiosity inherent in the artist's gaze as a primordial and necessary condition for the creative act. A connection is made between the gaze and the ideias of love, attachment and secular faith (with Wim Wenders, Wolfgang Tillmans and Martin Hägglund). The second part - "A Imagem Pop" (The Pop Image) - treats the way how the pop image, being a medium for the painting process, can be used to simultaneously reflect a comic and tragic symptom. Based on artist such as Roy Lichtenstein, Michel Majerus, Takashi Murakami, I reflect on how the pop image, usually associated with advertising, optimism and the mass culture, can, in painting, represent the opposite of that - a negativism, a dramatic sense or a criticism on contemporary issues. A dichotomy is made between the possibility of understanding art and the aesthetic experience as a "knock-out" of the viewer (with Byung Chul-Han), or as a "hug" that empowers him (with Jeff Koons). Finally, the third part - "Branches of work and considerations about their processes" - is the one in which I approach the practical work more directly, presenting images of the works and work processes.
