Abstract(s)
The banking system starts facing by the middle of the 70's deep changes due to competition and overcapacity. This situation was influenced by the instrumental changes on technology and social behaviour. The banks were forced to reroute their strategy to achieve cost reduction to offer new products under innovating services. This changes are the result of the sk orld economic globalization, deregulation, privatization and the introduction of the nev. technologies. By this way the traditional abilities and qualifications were turn down. The traditional professional identity of this sector, afier being mainly clerical for long time on a regulamented environment, have been deeply changed, as shown on the commercial atitude derived from the branch network development, which originated a new professional identity, completly different from the previous one. The market segmentation requires a labor force trainned in specific aspects related to customer needs. Actualy these chances are showing now two different banking identities, according to some author's writings. David Courpasson addresses this matter to the environment connected with each identity. Regarding that the banking system and their organizations are under modification of the social global environment, this study aims to identify how the market and organization changes induce a new professional identity. This identity has to be reequated, bearing in mind the changes in the company structures, leveis of expenise, mar ket segmentation and differentiation as well as information systems and new technologies.
