Eventos não planeados, descritos nas teorias do Caos de Carreira e Happenstance
Learning Theory, bem como na recente literatura sobre o acaso e choques de carreira, podem
impactar os projetos de vida e as trajetórias de carreira. A pandemia da Covid-19 representa
para muitos um choque de carreira ao ser um evento disruptivo e extraordinário de muito
baixo controlo, influenciando todos os setores da sociedade. Os estudantes do ensino superior
encontram-se num ambiente de incerteza financeira e de saúde, bem como diferentes métodos
de ensino, colocando-os numa posição vulnerável. Este estudo pretendeu então perceber o
impacto da pandemia da Covid-19 nos projetos de vida de estudantes do ensino superior de
diferentes áreas de estudo, a nível pessoal, no impacto percebido na área profissional, nos
valores de trabalho, satisfação com a vida, perspetiva temporal e prontidão para lidar com a
imprevisibilidade na carreira. Os resultados demonstraram que os estudantes relataram um
impacto a nível pessoal e na sua área de estudos. Foi encontrado um efeito geracional para os
valores de trabalho Teletrabalho, Responsabilidade Social, Ajudar os Outros, Autonomia e
Estabilidade. Alunos com maiores níveis de prontidão para lidar com a imprevisibilidade na
carreira demonstraram maiores níveis de perspetiva temporal e elaboração de uma perspetiva
temporal adequada, estando mais preparados para tirar partido de eventos do acaso com
otimismo.
Chance events, described in the Chaos Theory of Careers, Happenstance Learning Theory and recent literature about chance and career shocks, can impact life projects and career paths. The Covid-19 pandemic represents for many a career shock, since it’s a disruptive and extraordinary event of very little control that impacted all society’s sectors. College students find themselves in an environment of financial and health uncertainty, as well as different teaching methods, putting them in a vulnerable position. Thus, this study aims to understand the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in life projects of college students from different fields of study, from a personal level, perceived career field impact, work values, life satisfaction, time perception and the willingness to deal with career unpredictability. The results showed that the students perceived an impact at a personal level and in their field of study. It was found a generational effect in work values, such as Working from Home, Social Responsibility, Helping Others, Autonomy and Stability. Students with higher willingness to deal with unpredictability in their careers demonstrated higher levels of life satisfaction and development of an adequate time perspective, being more prepared to take advantage of chance events with optimism.
