O presente documento aborda a temática da reabilitação do Convento de Santo
António do Crato, na vila do Crato, distrito de Portalegre, região do Alentejo e sub-região
Norte Alentejo. Aqui serão explorados não só as vertentes práticas do ato de projetar e
reabilitar um edifício religioso como também algumas questões teóricas, relativamente à
problemática da reabilitação em edifícios religiosos e património, que suportam a
componente prática. Como é que se atua num edifício histórico sem o descaracterizar?
Ou, não descaracterizando, como é que asseguramos a total adaptação aos novos usos?
Que materiais e técnicas devem ser usadas?
Somente a partir destas questões teóricas, e após uma profunda análise e
investigação sobre o tema, se poderá fundamentar e desenhar um projeto que dignifique
um edifício histórico.
Neste documento é, assim, apresentada uma solução de reabilitação, juntamente
com o projeto de um novo edifício que o complementa e com o qual determina uma
relação de harmonia, e os estudos teóricos prévios que fundamentam as decisões
tomadas no mesmo.
Desde a fase de análise do lugar e do convento (estudos morfológicos,
fenomenológicos, históricos e socioeconómicos), passando pela comparação com
diversos casos de estudo, tanto na temática da reabilitação de edifícios históricos como
com programas semelhantes a serem adaptados, e finalmente culminando no
desenvolvimento do projeto e justificação das ações tomadas, todos os passos dados são documentados com o apoio de esquemas, fotografias de maquetas, fotografias do objeto de estudo e local, esquiços e desenhos técnicos.
ABSTRACT: The work here presented focuses on the rehabilitation of the Convent of Saint Antonio, in Crato town, Portalegre district, Portugal. Here, the practical component of the rehabilitation act will be explored. In support of the practical component, this work also focuses in some theoretical questions regarding the rehabilitation of historical and religious buildings and patrimony. How does one act in a historical building without taking away its identity? How does one ensure that its new purpose agrees with its origin? And what kind of materials and techniques should be used in doing so? Only by trying to answer these questions and by deeply analyzing the theme can we design, create and justify a project that dignifies a historical building. Therefore, this work proposes a rehabilitation solution, a project for a new building that complements it, determining a harmonized relationship and, finally, the background theorical studies which fundament all the decisions made throughout the process. All steps taken towards the completion of this work are documented with the help of 3D model photographs, location and convent photographs, technical drawings, sketches and schemes. These support the location and convent analysis (alongside the morphological phenomenological, historic, social and economic studies), and the comparison with case-studies regarding the rehabilitation of historical buildings as well as with similar programs being adapted. And finally, supporting also the development of this project and justifying all decisions made throughout.
