This study examines the importance of investigative activities in learning about the effect of seismic activity in the populations of students from a 7th grade classroom. This report examines the concept of learning by problem solving, students' reactions to these lessons in Science class and learning through the use of these strategies for cooperative work. Data were collected from naturalistic observation of classes, the questionnaire (where were the questions about students' perceptions in relation to investigative work), and analysis of written documents. The results showed that students were captivated with the investigative work performed but not always felt motivated by this type of activity, so their motivation was developed during the activity.
