O mundo empresarial moderno tem-se revelado nos últimos anos cada vez mais
competitivo. A necessidade das empresas se diferenciarem umas das outras é um dado
consumado e tem sido uma das principais preocupações dos gestores da actualidade. A
implementação de projectos Lean tem vindo a aumentar significativamente, sendo já
parte integrante da estratégia de muitas organizações. A ideia de que a metodologia é
aplicável apenas à indústria automóvel e de manufactura é algo ultrapassado, e o Lean
assume, hoje em dia, uma presença considerada no sector dos serviços,
nomeadamente nas empresas de Tecnologias de Informação (TI’s). Desde a redução de
custos, ao aumento da produtividade e optimização dos processos, através da
eliminação de desperdícios, o Lean proporciona às empresas ganhos de curto, médio e
longo prazos, capazes de melhorar o seu desempenho, aumentando ao mesmo tempo a
satisfação dos clientes, cada vez mais importante na era em que vivemos.
O objectivo deste trabalho é apresentar o conceito e a metodologia Lean, desde a sua
origem até à mais recente aplicação nas organizações de Sistemas e Tecnologias de
Informação. Para tal, apresenta-se um estudo de caso, exemplo da implementação das
melhores práticas Lean numa empresa de TI’s, mais concretamente no Departamento
de Gestão de Sistemas e Operações, evidenciando a metodologia utilizada, os
benefícios e os ganhos conquistados após a implementação. Pretende-se, pois,
demonstrar a aplicabilidade da metodologia Lean às TI’s, realçando a sua mais valia
para as organizações.
The new business world has proved, in the last years, increasingly competitive. The enterprises need to differentiate themselves from each others has been the managers major concern now-a-days. Lean projects implementation has increased significantly and is already part of organizational strategies. The idea that the methodology is only applicable to automobile and manufacture industry is something over past, and Lean assumes today a very important presence on services, namely on Information Technology (IT) firms. From cost reduction, to productivity increase and process optimization, through waste disposal, Lean provides enterprises with short, medium and long run gains able to improve performance, increasing at the same time, customer satisfaction, which is becoming more important in today’s age. The objective of this work is to present the concept and the Lean methodology, since it’s origin until the most recent application on System and Information Technologies organizations. For such, a case study is presented, as an implementation example of Lean best practices in an IT company, specifically on System and Operations Management Department, showing the methodology used, and its benefits and gains earned after implementation. The aim is to demonstrate Lean methodology applicability to IT, enhancing its current and future added value to organizations, always concerning “Kaizen” philosophy.
