Questões tradutórias na tradução técnica e especializada : relatório de estágio na Eurologos

O presente relatório de estágio realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa tem como objetivo demonstrar o trabalho elaborado ao longo dos três meses de estágio na Eurologos / Certas Palavras Lda, mas também explorar algumas questões de tradução relacionadas com a tradução técnica e especializada, tendo em consideração algumas teorias funcionalistas, de tradução e de terminologia técnica e especializada estudadas ao longo do Mestrado.
O relatório, dividido em três capítulos, apresenta uma parte inicial que visa descrever a entidade de acolhimento, a Eurologos, situada em Lisboa, assim como as tarefas realizadas ao longo do estágio, tais como a tradução, revisão e formatação de documentos, que permitiram conhecer o trabalho feito pela empresa e obter experiência profissional na área da tradução técnica e especializada. Apresentam-se ainda alguns dos softwares utilizados durante o estágio e a sua utilidade.
Na segunda parte, apresentam-se brevemente as teorias funcionalistas, assim como os seus autores mais relevantes, tais como Reiss, Vermeer e Nord. Pela sua relevância, são estudadas mais aprofundadamente a teoria do Skopos e a teoria de tradução de Yan Fu. Esta base teórica teve um forte contributo na escolha das estratégias de tradução e revisão utilizadas nos trabalhos elaborados durante o estágio, mas também na análise das questões de tradução abordadas no último capítulo.
Já na terceira parte, explora-se a questão da tradução técnica e especializada e da sua terminologia, discutindo alguns conceitos relevantes para as questões tradutórias que se apresentam logo depois, tais como o conceito de tradução técnica e especializada, a sua terminologia e a utilização de tradução de linguagem para fins específicos. As questões tradutórias exploram aspetos relacionados com o plano comunicativo, o plano textual, o plano sintático e o plano lexical.
This report aims to illustrate the work carried out throughout the three-month curricular internship experience that took place at Eurologos / Certas Palavras Lda, required for the conclusion of the Masters in Translation at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon. It also aims to explore some translational aspects related to technical and specialized translation encountered during the internship, in the light of some functionalist theories and relevant aspects associated with technical and specialized translation and terminology. The report is divided into three chapters. The first part sets out an introduction of the host institution in which the internship took place, Eurologos, located in Lisbon, as well as a description of the tasks carried out throughout the internship that allowed us to get to know the work done by the company and to acquire professional experience in the technical and specialized translation field such as translation, proofreading and document formatting, also known as desktop publishing (DTP). We also present some of the software used during the internship and their usefulness. In the second part, we reflect on some functionalist theories as well as some of the authors that contributed to this area of study, such as Reiss, Vermeer, and Nord. Then, due to their relevance, we delve further into the Skopos theory and Yan Fu’s translation theory. This theoretical foundation had a substantial impact on the translation and proofreading strategies that were used during the internship, as well as on the analysis of the translational aspects which we explore in the last chapter. The last part of this report, chapter III, explores aspects related to technical and special-ized translation, as well as its terminology, where we present some concepts pertaining to the translational aspects addressed hereinafter. These aspects explore issues related to the communication plane, such as formality and pragmatics; to the textual plane, such as the translation of linking words indeterminate reference, and others; to the syntactic plane, where we explore the translation of nominal modifiers, including the translation of gerundive sentences and structures with adjective modifiers, and other relevant questions; to the lexical plane, where we delve into terminology related questions, such as technical and specialized vocabulary, the many different possible translations of the same terms, as well as other lexical problems.
