Psychiatric architecture still being recognized for its hostile, dehumanized and melancholic environments designed to enclose the one’s in condition of Insanity. This is the word used to describe an act of madness and/or the diagnosis of various behaviors that are not socially accepted, the person who finds himself in this condition, is seen as a threat to be removed from the social sphere to dwell in a place of healing. The shortcomings felt in psychiatric architecture reveal the need to humanize the healing environments of mental health, one of the biggest weaknesses of contemporary society, because the replacement of the hostile aspect by the value of humanization of space gives architecture respect for human life. On the basis of the intimacy between architecture and healing, the proposal for a Mental Health Treatment Center is elaborated from the rehabilitation of the old Convent of São Paulo in Vila Viçosa. This rehabilitation is illuminated by the evidence-based design premises, by visits to national references in the field of psychiatric architecture and the theoretical study of the evolution of psychiatric equipment over the timeline in order to propose a safe and welcoming environment that preserve the memories of those who experience it and promote psychiatric healing based on architecture.
