This dissertation, developed within the scope of the Master's in Communication Sciences – Strategic Communication track, explores how Portuguese booktokers selected by the National Reading Plan (PNL) contribute to promoting reading among young people during the 2024 Lisbon Book Fair. In an era marked by digital transformation, where social media platforms are key agents of cultural dissemination, TikTok has emerged as a relevant tool in encouraging youth reading practices. Grounded in a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates four techniques: quantitative and qualitative content analysis of TikTok posts by the selected booktokers, analysis of user comments, focus groups with young readers, and semi-structured interviews with the influencers under study. The findings indicate that content characterized by authenticity, emotional appeal, and direct engagement with audiences is more effective in fostering interaction and interest in reading. Results also suggest that booktokers significantly influence their followers' reading preferences and book purchasing decisions, highlighting TikTok’s strategic role in shaping youth literary habits. The Lisbon Book Fair is perceived as a key moment that amplifies the impact of booktokers, reinforcing their visibility and connection with readers. Ultimately, this study contributes to understanding the intersection between youth culture, literary habits, and digital communication, highlighting the potential of platforms like TikTok to support reading practices and shape participatory media communities.
