Abstract(s)
This Dissertation intends to address the importance of rationality in the context of Christian spirituality. It aims to cast a glance at the Christians of the first centuries in order to understand how this dialogue between faith and reason began and came to be present in the intellect of the apostles and within the Christian communities. It also deals with the reason for the liturgical practice, which constitutes one of the main expressions of Christian life. The need for logical and convincing arguments, with a view to a rational and persuasive justification of the Christian faith, allowed for the appearance of apologies, “defences” of the faith that made possible, at the same time, the production of a solid Christian identity. This work establishes connections between the importance of reason, of “divine wisdom”, knowledge and rhetoric, contextualised in the dynamics of the “Spirit”, or Logos incarnate, the “Word” of God. The sources used for the preparation of this work are: the Bible, the Didache and the Apologies of Justin “Martyr”.
