Gastroesophageal reflux disease is one of the most common upper gastrointestinal tract disorders in Western population. Symptom as heartburn or regurgitation are enhance during physical activity in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease as in assyntomatic healthy subjects. The intensity and duration of physical activity seems to be a direct relation with episodes of gastroesophageal reflux. Runners and weightlifters are among the most affected ones. Contrariwise, cyclism seems to be among the sports that is less relatable to syntoms. Experimental studies suggest that the gastroesophagel refux may be increased in people who practicing sports due to several factos, from which stands out the increase in abdominal pressure and mostly the transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations. However, the mechanisms underlying increased reflux during exercise or the intensity from which there is an increase in symptomatology is made are not yet completely understood.
