Resumo(s)
We are currently witnessing a massive expansion of Energy and Transportation Infrastructures (ETIs). These infrastructures aim to foster the development of less developed areas; however, in many cases, they pose an environmental risk, threatening ecosystems and the biodiversity present in specific regions of the globe. This highlights the need for a tool that not only helps predict the environmental impact of a future ETI but can also assist in determining whether an existing ETI represents a significant impact on the biodiversity of its surrounding area. The objective of this project was the development of the ECOTERRA application. An application designed to address the aforementioned challenges, with two main functions: I. Provide information on the environmental impact of existing infrastructures. II. Provide information on the potential environmental impact of future infrastructures. ECOTERRA is a web-based application, accessible through an internet browser. It offers several tools that allow users to interact with an interactive map, through which they can analyze the area of a planned infrastructure or select an existing infrastructure as the subject of analysis. The development process included the collection and storage of various geographical data related to species from around the world. A user study validated as excellent the usability of the ECOTERRA application, both for expert users in biology and geographic information systems, and for users without experience in these fields.
