Existem mais de centena e meia de projectos de investigação de vacinas para covid-19, algumas das quais a realizar ensaios clínicos da Fase 3 ou já autorizadas, a título precário ou definitivo, e numa altura em que se assiste à segunda vaga da pandemia, subsistem questões que merecem reflexão, como sejam o paradoxo do desenvolvimento e autorização acelerados, o recurso a Human challenge studies; o reforço da monitorização pós- autorização consequência do desenvolvimento acelerado; o acesso aos medicamentos experimentais; a recuperação do investimento em I&D; a responsabilidade do fabricante; a imunização de grupo e seus desafios; a disponibilidade da vacina; a resistência à vacinação; a vacinação obrigatória e seus desafios
There are more than one hundred and fifty vaccine research projects against covid-19, some of which are carrying out Phase 3 clinical trials or have already been authorized, either precariously or definitively, and at a time when the second wave of the pandemic is taking place, issues that desserve reflection remain, such as the paradox of accelerated development and authorization, the use of Human challenge studies; the strengthening of post-authorization monitoring as a result of accelerated development; access to experimental drugs; the recovery of investment in R&D; the manufacturer’s responsibility; herd immunity and its challenges; vaccine availability; vaccine hesitancy; mandatory vaccination and its challenges.
