A noção de património cultural tem vindo a compreender um espectro de ob-jectos cada vez mais diversificado. A abrangência ao património dito industrial veio dar reconhecimento à salvaguarda de um testemunho ameaçado, mas com validade histórica que urge preservar e integrar num novo ciclo de vida. Em Lisboa, os processos de desindustrialização da segunda metade do sé-culo XX condenaram ao abandono e à ruína um importante legado construído e identitário do seu território oriental. Hoje, a tendência que se verifica é a exploração do potencial artístico e cultural destes espaços, com vista a rege-neração e desenvolvimento social, económico e cultural destas áreas fragili-zadas.
O presente trabalho pretende sustentar uma proposta de reabilitação dos es-paços da antiga Fábrica da Samaritana, em Xabregas, através da criação de um pólo musical. O grande objectivo da investigação passa por reflectir na proposta arquitectónica a necessidade de compreender os valores e preser-vação do património industrial e de activar através da arquitectura uma ideia de relação mútua com a música. Ao investigar o conceito de património in-dustrial, a leitura do território e as relações de aproximação das duas artes definiu-se um projecto onde arquitectura e música concorrem para a valoriza-ção da pré-existência e do local.
ABSTRACT: The notion of cultural heritage has been extended to an increasingly diverse range of objects. The inclusion of industrial heritage has given recognition to the protection of a threatened testimony with historical importance that must be preserved and integrated into a new life cycle. In Lisbon, the deindustriali-zation processes of the second half of the 20th century condemned an im-portant built and identity legacy of its eastern territory to dereliction and ruin. Nowadays, exploring the artistic and cultural potential of these spaces has contributed to the regeneration and social, economic and cultural development of these fragile areas. This research intends to support a proposal for the rehabilitation of the former Fábrica da Samaritana, in Xabregas, through the creation of a musical school. The research’s main goal is to translate into the architectural proposal the need to understand the values and preservation of the industrial heritage and to ac-tivate through architecture an idea of mutual relationship with music. Investi-gating the concept of industrial heritage, reading the territory and understand-ing the relationship between the two arts allowed the design of a project where architecture and music converge to the valorization of the place.
