O presente trabalho investiga a integração morfológica das grandes infraestruturas rodoviárias no contexto urbano contemporâneo, tendo como objeto de estudo um segmento da IC17 – CRIL. A proposta visa repensar a CRIL não apenas como um canal viário, mas como um elemento espesso ativo e integrador que articula os diversos fragmentos do tecido urbano, promovendo novas conexões de escala pedonal e transições entre territórios – do nível metropolitano ao local. A investigação orienta-se por questões que debatem como a infraestrutura pode ser reconfigurada formalmente e incorporada ao tecido urbano de maneira a favorecer a circulação, a vida coletiva e a superação de barreiras físicas e funcionais. Para tal, a metodologia adotada combinou uma análise empírica e documental detalhada, uma investigação teórico-conceitual crítica e um processo experimental de exploração projetual que culminou na seleção de sítios para a concretização da reflexão sob forma de propostas de reconfiguração formal a partir da espessura da infraestrutura. Ao repensar a CRIL como um dispositivo urbano de múltiplas camadas que articula diferentes escalas, é possível transformar uma infraestrutura tradicionalmente segregadora em um elemento estruturante, capaz de gerar novas dinâmicas e promover a coesão territorial. O resultado é uma proposta que não só minimiza os impactos negativos, como evidencia o potencial das infraestruturas para reconfigurar a experiência do habitar coletivo na cidade contemporânea.
This work investigates the morphological integration of large road infrastructures within the contemporary urban context, focusing on a segment of the IC17 – CRIL. The proposal aims to reconceptualize the CRIL not merely as a traffic corridor, but as a thick, active, and integrative element that articulates the various fragmented parts of the urban fabric, fostering new pedestrian-scale connections and transitions between territories – from the metropolitan to the local scale. The research is guided by questions that explore how infrastructure can be formally reconfigured and incorporated into the urban fabric in a way that enhances circulation, collective life, and the overcoming of physical and functional barriers. To this end, the adopted methodology combines detailed empirical and documentary analysis, critical theoretical-conceptual investigation, and an experimental design process, culminating in the selection of specific sites where the reflection takes shape through formal reconfiguration proposals based on the thickness of infrastructure. By reimagining the CRIL as a multi-layered urban device that connects different scales, it becomes possible to transform a traditionally segregating infrastructure into a structuring element, capable of generating new dynamics and promoting territorial cohesion. The result is a proposal that not only mitigates negative impacts but also highlights the potential of infrastructures to reshape the experience of collective living in the contemporary city
