Una frase muy manida pero por ello no menos cierta es: “Quien no conoce su historia esta condenado a repetir sus errores’’. Este ha sido el principio que há inspirado este trabajo. La situaci6n politica que se produjo en Espafia como consecuencia de la abdicacién de Amadeo I de Saboya y la proclamacion de la I Republica, asi como, y especialmente, el intento frustrado de promulgar una Constitucion republicana federal, son los aspectos objeto de revision en este estudio, para lo que me ha basado principalmente en los Diarios de Sesiones de las Cortes

The object of this study, for which I have drawn mostly on acts of Congress, concerns the political situation that occurred in Spain as a result of Amadeus I of Savoy’s abdication and the proclamation of the First Republic, and, particularly, the thwarted attempt to promulgate a Republican federal constitution
