Portugal has suffered from successive abandonment of its rural areas, especially in its hinterland, such as in the Alentejo, where this intervention is located. The construction of the Alqueva dam brought with it some negative consequences for this region, especially for the villages that saw much of their land engulfed by the rising waters, which contributed to increasing distances between populations and greater difficulties in accessing them. This proposal reflects the awareness of this problem. The main aim of the project is to bring new life to Aldeia da Estrela, in the parish of Póvoa de São Miguel, in the municipality of Moura, by proposing a tourism. An architectural project is proposed, combining tourism and sustainability, aiming to use architecture as a means of bringing life and work opportunities to the village, based on its relationship with water. This proposal consists of 8 accommodation units, supported by a restaurant and a nautical center, all based on traditional architecture of the Alentejo, and relate to the village both formally and conceptually, through a sense of pre-existence. To this end, research was carried out on the village and the reasons and consequences of depopulation, on traditional architecture of the Alentejo and how they could respond in a sustainable way through a construction method that preserves the memory and form of vernacular architecture, while guaranteeing comfort in the experience of these spaces. It was necessary to understand the type of tourism most suited for this village, thinking of proportionality in size and needs, while always respecting the interests of the inhabitants.
