Abstract: I try to describe in this thesis what can be considered a literary fact and how it is constituted. To do so, the relation between the notions of reader and of literary critic, as well as those of reading and of literary criticism, will be analysed. Following David Hume’s theory, according to which all knowledge is mediated by perception, the objective status of facts will also be addressed as problematic. With the emphasis on experience as producer of meanings, the moment of reading cannot be eliminated from critical discourse.
