Juromenha surge no topo de uma escarpa mirando a fronteira com Espanha. Destacando-se ao longo da margem do Guadiana, esta em tempos um elemento defensivo importante para a soberania Portuguesa, encontra-se agora num estado de ruína.
A importância do seu valor histórico não deve ser ignorando e a sua recuperação é de caracter urgente, de forma a salvaguardar para gerações futuras.
Para que isto aconteça é necessário apresentar uma nova fonte de rendimento para assegurar uma manutenção da fortaleza.
No entanto a componente histórica de Juromenha apresenta dificuldades no tipo de intervenções a usar, visto que quase toda a sua área se tornou um deposito arqueológico, rico em elementos históricos, mas limitador em termos de abordagens arquitetónica.
Surge então o desafio do desenvolvimento de um programa que consiga ter como objetivo apresentar novas áreas de rendimento a Juromenha e ao mesmo tempo respeitar a sua história.
Seguindo exemplos locais como as intervenções de Souto Moura no Barrocal em São Lourenço, a criação de um espaço de alojamento seria um excelente modo de explorar as potencialidades locais, desde o espaço natural a toda a vertente cultural envolvente, usando a reabilitação da fortaleza para fornecer novos equipamentos á população local.
As interversões devem ter em conta todos equipamentos necessários para um bom funcionamento do espaço de alojamento e a utilização das diversas pré-existências como meio de responder as essas necessidades
Juromenha appears on top of a cliff overlooking the border with Spain. Standing out along the banks of the Guadiana, this once important defensive element for Portuguese sovereignty, is now in a state of disrepair. The importance of its historical value should not be ignored, and its recovery is urgent, in order to safeguard it for future generations. For this to happen it is necessary to present a new source of income to ensure the maintenance of the fortress. However, the historical component of Juromenha presents difficulties in the type of interventions that can be used, since almost its entire area has become an archaeological deposit, rich in historical elements, but limiting in terms of architectural approaches. Then comes the challenge of developing a program that can aim to introduce new areas of income to Juromenha and at the same time respect its history. Following local examples such as Souto Moura's interventions in Barrocal in São Lourenço, the creation of an accommodation space would be an excellent way to explore the local potential, from the natural space to all the surrounding cultural aspects, using the rehabilitation of the fortress to provide new equipment to the local population. Interversions must take into account all the equipment necessary for the proper functioning of the accommodation space and the use of the various pre-existing facilities as a means of meeting these needs.
